LET EVERY VOICE BE HEARD – Voter Registration
Join us on Sunday, July 29 (at 1pm or 3pm or both!) for Temple Rodef Shalom’s first event under our new “Let Every Voice Be Heard” initiative. We are hosting a major voter registration and phone bank event to reach out to African-American voters in Virginia. The event is sponsored by Temple Rodef Shalom, The Poor People’s Campaign – A National Call for Moral Revival, and the Virginia NAACP. As part of Reform Judaism’s Voting Rights Act Initiative, the Temple’s voter mobilization efforts will complement and augment the RAC’s 2018 Civic Engagement Initiative. Stay tuned for other events planned over the next three months. All events of the TRS “Let Every Voice Be Heard” initiative are nonpartisan.
Our purpose is to provide legally required training for outreach on voter registration and to contact voters with clear instructions for and assistance with voter re-registration. The Virginia Board of Elections is advising voters who are uncertain about their voting status to re-register with the Board of Elections. This guidance affects more than 210,000 Virginia African-American voters, in addition to many others. Many of these voters are unaware that they need to re-register.
People from our local community will also attend, including Shiloh Baptist Church of McLean, the Fairfax Branch of the NAACP, the Social Justice Committee of Falls Church and Vicinity, and The Poor People’s Campaign.
