We’re writing to invite you to attend a Community Forum on Housing for All, to be held on March 14, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Vienna (450 Orchard Street, Vienna VA 22180). The event is being organized by the Fairfax County NAACP and co-sponsored by the Virginia Poor People’s Campaign – A National Call for Moral Revival as well as other community groups.
Fairfax County, one of the wealthiest in the nation, is also home to substantial populations of poor people of color, immigrants, and others at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder who have been increasingly impacted by the movement of large corporations in the county. With the impending creation of a new Amazon headquarters in nearby Arlington County, Fairfax and other adjacent areas are facing a looming housing crisis that will hit these vulnerable populations especially hard. This timely forum is the beginning of a community-wide effort to address these issues by informing and mobilizing the affected communities.
This event’s purpose is to inform, inspire, and organize Fairfax county groups working on any of the issues touched by affordable housing – including education, health, minimum wage, transportation, childcare, immigration, environmental justice, and more – to come together to support county policy changes and increased public funding for affordable housing. Safe, affordable housing is the platform for education, health, work, family and more livable green communities.
